The first step is to calculate your points to ensure you meet the minimum threshold of 65. Next, identify an occupation listed on Australia’s skilled occupation list. You’ll then need to obtain a positive skills assessment for that occupation.

The 189 visa generally requires the highest number of points out of 189, 190 and 491. The main advantage of the 189 visa is that it doesn’t require meeting state-specific criteria or obtaining a state sponsorship, as it is entirely independent. However, your occupation must be listed on the Medium to Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
