
WORK VISA – TEMPORARY SKILLS SHORTAGE – SKILLS IN DEMAND – TSS (482)
Subclass 482 (TSS Visa) is where employers sponsor overseas workers. Through the TSS Stream, applicants may have a pathway to permanent residency.
There are 3 streams in the 482 visa. Short-term stream, Medium-Term stream and the Labour Agreement Stream.
The business must be a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS) or an Overseas Business sponsor to sponsor an applicant.
Qualifying visa: The applicant can be outside or inside Australia (but if in Australia, must be on a substantive visa, Bridging Visa A, Bridging Visa B or Bridging Visa C)
3 steps are involved in the 482 TSS visa:
Step 1
- Sponsorship (by the employer) – sponsor must be lawful, active, operating a business)
- Lawfully registered
- Operating as a business
Documents that may be required in this step are company/sole-trader registration documents, financial documents such as BAS, company tax return, balance sheet etc.
Step 2
- Nomination – Genuineness of position, Salary details, labour market testing
Labour Market Testing – where employer must place ads on a recognised recruitment website, newspaper/medium. Both ads must be at least for 28 days (4 weeks) and must be within last 4 months prior to nomination lodgement date.
Core Skills Stream:
- Minimum salary of employee must be $76, 515 + Superannuation
- Must have occupation on Core Skills Occupation List
Specialist Skills Stream:
- Minimum salary of employee must be $141,210 + Superannuation
- Occupation must be in Major Groups 1, 2, 4, 5 or 6
Documents that may be required in this step are genuine position report etc.
Skilled Australia Fund
If business has an annual turnover of more than 10 million, than $1800 per year that the visa applicant has a visa.
If the business has turnover of less than 10 million, than $1200 per year.
Step 3
- Visa Application – applicant required at least 1 year experience (plus meet ANZSCO occupation specific skill requirements and must meet character and health requirements.

exempt applicant means You DO NOT have to give above ENGLISH TESTS if you are any of the BELOW: (a) an applicant who is a citizen of, and who holds a valid passport issued by, one of the following countries: (i) Canada; (ii) New Zealand; (iii) the Republic of Ireland; (iv) the United Kingdom; (v) the United States of America; or (b) an applicant who has completed at least 5 years of full‑time study in a secondary education institution or higher education institution where the instruction was delivered in English; or (c) an applicant who has been nominated by a standard business sponsor in relation to an occupation that will be performed at: (i) a diplomatic or consular mission of another country; or (ii) an Office of the Authorities of Taiwan located in Australia; or (d) an applicant: (i) who has been nominated in relation to an occupation that requires the applicant to hold a licence, registration, or membership to perform the occupation; and (ii) who has been granted that license, registration, or membership; and (iii) who, for the purposes of the grant of that license, registration, or membership, was required to demonstrate a level of English language proficiency that is equivalent to, or better than, the level of English language proficiency that is required to achieve the required test scores for an approved English language test that the applicant would have been required to achieve but for this paragraph; or (e) an applicant who: (i) is employed by a company operating an established business overseas; and (ii) is nominated by a standard business sponsor who is that company or an associated entity of that company; and (iii) will receive annual earnings of at least AUD 96,400. |

The Core Skills Stream and Specialist Skills Stream does lead to PR after working with same employer for 2 years on TSS 482 visa. But this is only if your employer decides to sponsor you on your 186 Temporary Residence Transition Stream Visa.
- Skills Assessment – A skills assessment is not required for 482 for most occupations. Only required for trade occupations and that too if you have a country of passport from only certain countries.
Documents that may be required in this step are work experience documents, english proof documents, passport etc.
